The JV Lion basketball team opened the season at the Woodson tournament last week, winning one out of three games.

The JV will host a 16-team tournament starting Thursday, which will continue on Saturday. Albany will open with a game against Early at 9:00 a.m., followed by a bout with Baird on Thursday at 11:20 p.m. On Saturday the JV will play Cross Plains at 1:40 p.m. and the Sweetwater freshmen at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets for the two-day event are $3 for adults and $2 for students for each day of the tourney. A concession stand sponsored by the junior class will be available.

Games are scheduled throughout both days starting at 9:00 a.m., with the last round beginning at 5:10 p.m. each day.

The JV will travel to Early on Tuesday, Dec. 11 for games starting at 4:00 p.m., according to the schedule.

The JV fell in the first game of the Woodson tournament to Moran, 40-24.

“We got off to a slow start in the first quarter and couldn’t get back in it,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “The guys played well through the second and third quarters, but ran out of gas in the fourth.”

The coach said the team is doing well considering there hasn’t been any practice time since the -Lions are still in the football playoffs.

Scoring for Albany were Cooper Fairchild 3, Brodey Jones 8, Malachi Gueldner 7, Luke Ivy 2, Ryan Mark 2, and Rylan Roberson 2.

The JV won the second round against Woodson, 41-18.

“This was our first game against a man to man defense and the guys adjusted well,” the coach said. “We were able to find ways to score in a different offensive scheme.”

Scoring were Fairchild 12, Jones 9, Ivy 13, Mark 1, and Roberson 6.

Albany fell short in the third game, losing to Harrold, 43-38.

“We were playing for consolation, and the guys faced a tough test,” Peacock said. “We came out strong and were down by just one point at the half, but we had no energy in the third. Even though we surged back again late in the fourth, we were too far behind.”

Scoring were Fairchild 15, Jones 8, Ivy 7, Mark 2, and Roberson 6.
