Ashton Bailey returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and the Albany Lions junior varsity football team rolled to a 41-0 victory last Thursday at Anson.

Bailey finished with three touchdowns, and Cason Fairchild scored two, while Albany (5-0) forced five turnovers.

“I thought we dominated on both sides of the ball,” coach David Fairchild said. “I was very pleased with our effort as a team. The defense played with some aggression, and the offense operated smoothly.”

After Bailey’s 70-yard return, Branson Beal scored on a 22-yard run. Bryson Herring’s fumble recovery led to a 22-yard touchdown by Bailey, who then returned an interception 16 yards to score.

Cason Fairchild had a 65-yard touchdown and returned another interception for a score.

Fairchild finished with two interceptions with Bailey and Beal each having one.

Lute Wheeler completed two-point conversion passes to Tyler Chapman and Fairchild, while Bailey kicked the extra point following the last touchdown.

“Chapman, Ethan Green, Houston Heatly, and Beal all played well,” David Fairchild said. “Jace Little, Cason Fairchild, Wheeler, and Herring had good games in the secondary.”

The coach was also pleased with the balanced production by the offense.

“Our backs ran hard, and the offensive line did a great job on their assignments,” he said. “Wheeler ran a well-controlled offense both on the ground and in the air.”

The Lions return to action Thursday (tonight) at Olney, with kickoff around 6:00 p.m. following the junior high games.
