The JV Lions remain undefeated after a 28-7 victory last Thursday in Eastland over the JV Mavericks.

The 3-0 Lions will host Hawley on Thursday (today) at about 6:45 p.m. following the two junior high games.

Albany scored on the opening drive in Eastland last week, with Brooks Neece scoring the first of four tallies on a three-yard run. The two-point attempt failed.

Eastland took the lead 7-6 with a touchdown and a PAT in the third period.

Albany answered with a four-yard score by Neece to regain the lead 12-7. The conversion attempt failed.

Cade Neve scored in the fourth quarter and Albany added a two-point conversion to bump the lead to 20-7.

Late in the game, Robert Bailey stripped the ball and recovered the resulting fumble to set up the final Albany touchdown. Neece scored again on a one-yard carry, and also tacked on a two-point play to end the scoring at 28-7.

“Our offensive line had a great game,” coach David Fairchild said. “We ran behind them all night.”

The coach commended offensive linemen Bryce Asher, Devan Henson, Jackson Chapman, Riley Green, Monte Cauble, and Ty Everitt.

He also commended Neece and Bailey for running the ball “tough and hard.”

“Defensively, we rallied to make plays, causing three turnovers,” he said. “Everett McWhorter, Neece, and Cauble all had a good night.”

Cauble was credited with ending a Maverick drive with an interception.
