The JV Lions opened the season last Thursday at home, shutting out the Colorado City Wolves 36-0.

The Lions will travel to Dublin on Thursday (today) for another pre-district bout. The JV will follow the two junior high games which start at 4:30 p.m. The JV kickoff is expected at about 6:45 p.m.

The Lions scored on their first possession against Colorado City last week, with quarterback Cole Chapman hitting Malachi Gueldner with a four-yard pass for the tally. The extra point attempt failed.

The Lions scored on an eight-yard run by Taren Farmer, and the extra point attempt failed.

Caden Price scored on the next Albany possession on a 18-yard run. Chapman then connected with Barrett Beal for the two-point conversion.

Just before the half, Chapman again found Gueldner on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Price added two points on a run to put the Lions ahead 28-0 at the half.

The Lions mounted an eight-minute drive in the second half that was capped by 18-yard touchdown pass from Chapman to Luke Ivy. Chapman scored the two-pointer on a keeper.

“I thought the offense executed well,” coach David Fairchild said. “Chapman had a good night at quarterback, and Price and Farmer ran hard in the backfield.”

The coach also commended the offensive line, including Chris Hensley, Koy Cauble, Bryce Asher, Coy Knight, Ty Everitt, and Ryan Mark.

“There were also some nice catches by Gueldner, Ivy, and Beal,” he said. “Our defense swarmed to the ball, and the defensive line did a good job.”

The coach recognized Jayden Lucas and Farmer for outstanding defensive effort.

“All around, it was a really good way to start the season.”
