The Albany Lions junior varsity football team scored on offense, defense and special teams Thursday, Oct. 13 in a 28-6 victory at Cross Plains.

The JV Lions (4-3) were left without a game this week against Roscoe, but efforts were ongoing to find a replacement opponent. The team’s final game will be Thursday, Oct. 27 against Hamlin at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

At Cross Plains, Albany pulled away to defeat the Buffaloes for the second week in a row.

Shawn Keen scored Albany’s first touchdown on a 5-yard run after Breylon Billington made some nice gains to get close.

Keen had a hand in the Lions’ next score, recovering a fumble to set up a 28-yard TD pass from Brody Oliver to Cade Fairchild.  Keen ran for the two-point conversion.

Calhan Fairchild added the third touchdown with a 54-yard punt return. Oliver connected with Mason McCloy for the conversion.

Keen dealt the final blow with a 51-yard fumble return after stripping and recovering the ball.

Albany had two other takeaways for a total of four overall. Calhan Fairchild intercepted a pass, and Oliver recovered a fumble.

“Defensively, we played well,” coach David Fairchild said. “Tony Wheeler had several nice plays, as well as Ethan Green and Laithe Leech. Mason McCloy and Woods Peterson had some good tackles.”
