The JV Lions kept a perfect season record with a 34-0 shutout over the Cross Plains Buffaloes last Thursday at Robert Nail Stadium, improving to 8-0 for the season.

The JV will travel to Haskell today to face the Indians as the district race continues. Kickoff is expected about 6:30 p.m. following the junior high games.

On the following Thursday, Nov. 7, Albany will host three sub-varsity games, beginning at 4:00 p.m. with the seventh grade against Haskell, followed by the eighth grade and the JV against Hamlin.

The Lions struck quickly against Cross Plains last week, with Samuel Rosas running the ball in from 22 yards out for the first tally. Caden Price added the two-pointer on a run.

Price went on to score later in the first quarter on a six-yard carry, which was followed by a two-point pass from Cole Chapman to Rosas for a 16-0 lead.

Chapman scored on a 40-yard keeper later in the game. The try for two points failed.

Tye Edgar recovered a fumble to set up a five-yard scoring run by Price, but the conversion again failed, leaving the Lions with a 28-0 lead.

Price got the call for the final tally on a 30-yard carry. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the final score at 34-0.

“I was really proud of our offense considering the weather conditions,” coach David Fairchild said. “We did a good job up front, and the backs ran hard.”

The coach also praised the defense.

“We had another dominating night on defense,” he said. “We had some big plays defensively on special teams by Keatin Russell and Miles McCloy. Overall, it was another great win for our guys.”
