The Albany Lions junior varsity football team started quickly and never trailed last Thursday in defeating Hico 46-0 on the road.

Cason Fairchild returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, and Lute Wheeler passed for three touchdowns as Albany improved to 7-0.

“We came out and dominated both offensively and defensively,” coach David Fairchild said. “We had a lot of energy on both sides of the ball.”

Ashton Bailey, who also kicked four PATs, scored on a 22-yard screen pass to give the Lions a 12-0 lead.

Tyler Chapman followed with a 21-yard touchdown run; then Wheeler connected with Houston Heatly on a 25-yard TD pass to make it 25-0.

Cole Read blocked a punt to set up a 4-yard TD pass from Wheeler to Cason Fairchild.

Bryson Herring scored on a 78-yard run as Albany pushed the lead to 39-0. Jace Little added the final touchdown on a 3-yard run.

The junior varsity will have an open date this week after efforts to find a game were unsuccessful. The Lion JV missed games against Hamlin and Meridian, who did not have enough players to field JV teams in those weeks.

Albany returns to action Oct. 28 at Santo before closing out the season Nov. 4 against Cross Plains at home.
