JV Lions blank Bearcats 40-0

Jack Nail and Breylon Billington each ran for two touchdowns Thursday, Sept. 14 as the Albany Lion junior varsity defeated Hawley 40-0 at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

The JV Lions make their second home appearance Thursday, Sept. 21 (tonight) as the nightcap of a tripleheader with the junior high teams starting at 4:30 p.m.

Against Hawley, Albany totaled 316 yards of offense while allowing 80. Nail rushed for 117 yards on just four carries with Billington adding 66 yards on six carries. Aaden Mendez was 5 of 6 passing for 92 yards with Mason McCloy making all the receptions.

Sam Vickers had an interception, Wesley Gleitz recovered a fumble, and Jackson Shack had a sack on defense.

“Offensively, Mason McCloy, Jack Nail, Aaden Mendez, and Breylon Billington had good performances,” coach David Fairchild said. “Defensively, McCloy, Jackson Shack, Brody Oliver, and Casey Estridge played well.”

Nail opened the scoring with a 33-yard run with 6:50 to go in the first quarter. Hollis Yeates scored the conversion on a pass from Mendez.

Billington scored on a 4-yard run with 7:25 left in the second quarter. Gleitz caught Mendez’s pass for the conversion.

With just 57 seconds left in the half, McCloy scored on a 34-yard reception and Yeates ran for the conversion to give Albany a 24-0 halftime lead.

Albany’s last two scores came in the third quarter. Vickers’ interception set up Nail’s 56-yard TD run. McCloy added the conversion on a pass from Mendez.

Billington scored the last touchdown on a 45-yard run with 1:48 left in the quarter. Yeates ran for the conversion.
