The JV football team wrapped up the 2020 season with another shutout, beating the visiting Wylie sophomore JV 28-0 last Thursday at Robert Nail Stadium.

The Lions finished the season with a 7-1 record, playing several games against larger schools because of cancellations due to the coronavirus.

“This was a good win for our JV coming off a tough loss the week before,” coach David Fairchild said. “We faced a good defensive front, and I was pleased with our offensive line.”

The coach commended linemen Coy Knight, Tye Edgar, Cole Read, Koy Cauble, Zane Waggoner, and Adam Hill for their offensive efforts.

“I felt that Lute Wheeler made some big plays, passing the ball under pressure,” he said. “I also thought that London Fuentes, Caden Price, Samuel Rosas, and Adam Hill all had a big night on offense.”

The coach was pleased with the Lions’ defensive effort.

“Our defense played well, including two big interceptions by Hill and Keatin Russell,” Fairchild said. “Coy Knight, Cort Peterson, Zane Waggoner, Caden Price, Cooper Edgar, and Samuel Rosas all had tackles for losses,” the coach said. “Tyler Chapman and Bryce Herring played, along with Adam Hill, at the H position.”

Fairchild also praised Lanxton Viertel for making several tackles for losses on defense.

Fuentes scored on a 29-yard run, then kicked the PAT to put the Lions up 7-0 early in the game.

Rosas scored next on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Lute Wheeler, followed by Fuentes running in the two-pointer for a 15-0 lead.

In the second half, Hill scored on a 59-yard touchdown pass play from Wheeler. The PAT attempt failed.

Price got the call for the final touchdown on a four-yard pass from Wheeler. Fuentes kicked the PAT to end the scoring at 28-0.
