JV finishes with 8-0 record

The Albany Lions junior varsity football team closed out its season last Thursday with a 54-16 victory against the Seymour Panthers at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

Albany finished the season 8-0.

“This has been a great season for these young men,” coach David Fair­child said. “I appreciate all their dedication and hard work.   I’m looking forward to a bright future for this group.”

Ashton Bailey and Cason Fairchild each scored three touchdowns, while Lute Wheeler passed for two TDs and two conversions.

Albany converted five turnovers into scores. Bailey intercepted two passes to set up scoring drives, while Cason Fairchild returned one for a TD. Ethan Green and Tyler Chapman had fumble recoveries that led to touchdowns.

The Lions finished with 307 total yards, while holding Seymour to 102, 76 of which came on one drive.

Bailey opened the scoring with touchdown runs of eight and 19 yards. Wheeler passed to Fair­child for the conversion on the latter.

Bailey’s first interception led to a 37-yard touchdown run by Branson Beal as Albany led 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After Seymour’s long drive opened the second quarter,  the Lions responded with three more touchdowns to lead 40-8 at halftime. Wheeler and Fairchild connected on a 39-yard TD pass, Bailey followed his second pick with a five-yard run, and Green’s fumble recovery set up a 25-yard pass from Wheeler to Fairchild. Chapman pulled in the conversion pass following Bailey’s touchdown.

Chapman’s fumble recovery in the third quarter led to Bailey’s third score on a 38 yard run. Beal ran for the conversion.

Fairchild returned his interception 15 yards to score in the fourth quarter, making Albany’s lead 54-8.
