The two Lion JV teams played a combined total of nine games last week, hosting a pair of bouts on Tuesday and playing in the Jacksboro Tournament.

The JV teams will travel to Comanche on Friday for games starting at 4:00 p.m. before the holiday break begins.

The JV team suffered a one-point loss to Early on Dec. 10, followed by falling in three games out of four in Jacksboro.

Despite a big fourth-quarter effort, the JV lost 40-39 to Early.

“Overall, it was a solid game,” coach Rod Britting said. “We had a slump in the third quarter where we got behind. The guys turned it around in the fourth and almost won.”

London Fuentes and Barrett Beal were named offensive standouts, along with Luke Ivy, Caden Price and Brooks Neece on defense.

Scoring were Neece 2, Fuentes 15, Price 4, Beal 16, and Robert Bailey 2.

The JV lost to Archer City, 50-32, in the first round at the Jacksboro Tournament.

“We didn’t play well overall,” the coach said. “We started well but didn’t finish. We are still figuring a lot of things out. Good opponents can expose things you need to improve.”

Fuentes and Price were named for offense, and Ivy was tapped for defense.

Scoring were Neece 2, Fuentes 15, Price 8, Cooper Fairchild 2, Bailey 3, and Brodey Jones 2.

The JV dropped a second game last Thursday to Muenster, 55-25.

“We didn’t play like we were ready, never getting into a rhythm,” Britting said. “Hopefully, we learned some valuable lessons about how to play.”

Fuentes and Price again were picked as offensive standouts.

Scoring were Neece 2, Keatin Russell 2, Fuentes 9, Price 8, Fairchild 1, and Bailey 2.

The JV lost another game by a similar score, 55-22, to Paradise.

“They were a really good team, but we didn’t do much to help ourselves,” the coach said. “We got behind early and never seemed to get anything going.”

Fairchild was tapped as the offensive standout.

Scoring were Fuentes 2, Price 6, Fairchild 12, Bailey 2.

The JV finally added a win in the fourth round, beating Windthorst 44-29.

“The guys gave a better team effort,” the coach said. “We got some much-needed inside points which had eluded us previously.”

Neece and Jones were the offensive leaders, while Fuentes and Ivy were named for defense.

Scoring were Neece 8, Fuentes 14, Price 4, Fairchild 8, Ivy 2, Jones 8.

The JV ended the tournament with a season record of 5-5.

JV II Winless

Last Week

The JV II Lions lost four games last week, starting with a 39-18 loss to Early on Dec. 10.

“The guys are still learning and each game is a chance to improve and get better,” Britting said.

Rylan Roberson was the offensive leader, while Chris Hensley and Ryan Mark were picked for defense.

Scoring were Andrew Leverton 1, Malachi Gueld-ner 4, Tyler Waddell 2, Jaheim Newton 4, and Roberson 7.

The JV II went 0-3 in the Jacksboro tourney last week.

Albany fell to Boyd 37-4 in the first game.

Getting the nod on defense were Mark and Hensley.

Scoring were Gueld-ner 1, Newton 2, and Roberson 1.

The JV II lost to Paradise on Friday, 37-21.

“Even with the loss, the guys played much better overall,” Britting said.

Hensley was the offensive leader, and Newton was picked for defense.

Scoring were Gueldner 5, Newton 6, and Hensley 10.

The JV II also dropped the final round to Jacksboro, 34-23.

“We missed a bunch of easy shots, otherwise we could have won this game,” Britting said. “If we start making our shots, we’ll have a good chance of staying in the game and winning.”

Roberson and Newton were tapped as offensive leaders, along with Newton, Gueldner and Leverton on the defensive side.

Scoring were Leverton 4, Gueldner 4, Newton 5, Hensley 6, and Roberson 6.
