The JV Lion football team met a freshmen squad from Stephenville in Ranger last Thursday, and the Lions came away with a 28-0 victory.

The team will host Santo in a district JV bout on Friday at Robert Nail Stadium. Kickoff is planned for 6:15 p.m. following the junior high game.

Adam Hill opened the scoring with a 12-yard scoring pass from Lute Wheeler, followed by a kick by London Fuentes.

Caden Price got a tally for the team on a 14-yard run, followed by another PAT by Fuentes for a 14-0 lead.

Fuentes was credited with the third touchdown on a 16-yard run, then he kicked the PAT.

The final score of the game came on a two-yard run by Samuel Rosas, with Fuentes kicking his fourth PAT of the game.

“Offensively, we had a great night of execution,” coach David Fairchild said. “Our offensive line was explosive, and our backs ran the ball hard.”

The coach named standouts on the line including Cole Read, Koy Cauble, Cort Peterson, Zane Waggoner, Tye Edgar, and Coy Knight.

Backs running the ball who were praised by the coach were Price, Rosas, and Lanxton Viertel.

“Lute had a good night passing the ball and executing the offense, and London had several big plays and an interception,” Fairchild said. “Adam had a big touchdown catch and several big hits on defense.”

The coach also credited Tyler Chapman with a big catch in the second half.

“Houston Heatly had several big special team plays and played well on defense,” the coach said. “Keatin (Russell) and Lanxton had several big hustling plays on defense.”
