The number of participants in junior high football and volleyball remained high for this season, with both programs starting competition on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The volleyball teams will host Wylie East starting at 4:30 p.m. with the seventh grade teams playing in the old gym and the eighth grade in the newer gym.

A total of 32 girls have been divided into four teams, with an A and B team for each grade level.

“The girls are sticking with it and doing a good job of working hard,” coach Dakota Fowler said.

Fowler is coaching the eighth grade teams, while Ginger Norton will handle the seventh grade.

Cubs to Open

in Dublin

The two junior high football teams each have 18 players on the roster for the season.

The Cubs will travel to Dublin on Sept. 5 to start the season. The seventh grade will kick off at 4:00 p.m., with the eighth grade following at about 5:00 p.m.

“We can tell the eighth grade has a year behind them as far as their experience,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “They are picking it back up pretty fast.”

The coach added that the seventh graders are continuing to improve.

“Because it’s their first year, they are having to learn a lot,” the coach said. “They are getting better every day.”

The Cubs will play four straight weeks on the road, followed by an open date. The first home game will be on Oct. 10 against Stamford.
