Junior high teams split final games against Roscoe

The Cubs and Lady Cubs ended the season with a set of games against Roscoe on Monday, with the boys winning their games while the girls lost.

The Lady Cubs also played in the Stamford tournament on Saturday with mixed results.

The boys closed out the season on a positive note, bringing home three victories.

The eighth graders earned a 50-17 win on Monday.

“The guys finished the season strong with this performance,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We executed really well on offense and created a lot of turnovers on defense. I’m really proud of the progress the team showed during the season.”

Scoring were London Fuentes 20, Caden Price 10, Cole Chapman 14, and Keatin Russell 6.

The seventh grade Red team also won in Roscoe, 22-17. Scoring were J.J. Clark 8, Tyler Waddell 6, Brayden Watson 2, and Sterlin Hobbs 6.

“It was overall a good season for these young men,” coach David Fair-child said. “They have improved each week.”

The seventh grade White team also earned a win, beating Roscoe 29-15.

“This group had a great season, ending with a 14-1 record,” Fairchild said. “They worked hard all season, and it was fun to coach them.”

Scoring were Cason Fairchild 3, Bryson Herring 2, Cole Read 3, Lute Wheeler 2, Adam Hill 15, and Lanxton Viertel 4.

Lady Cubs Results

The eighth grade girls lost a tight game against Roscoe, 25-23. Scoring were Brylee Moore 13, Haily Cox 7, Gracie Price 2, and Briley Tabor 1.

“They had their best game of the season,” coach Ginger Norton said. “We played them much closer this time. The girls improved with each game, and I am really proud of their effort and desire.”

The eighth graders competed in the Stamford tournament on Saturday, losing to Hawley 32-26 and defeating Coleman 32-9.

“We had several out sick,” Norton said. “But the girls played hard and improved their score from the last time we played Hawley.”

Scoring were Moore with 25 points and Cox with 1.

In the win over Coleman, Moore was the leading scorer with 25 points, along with Tabor 6, and Price 1.

“The girls played their best, and it showed,” said Norton.

The seventh graders lost against Roscoe on Monday, 19-9.

Scoring were Callan Edgar 2, Robyn Trail 2, Kaedyn Nowell 2, and Braylyn Abbate 3.

“I have 13 girls, and we only had four who were healthy enough to play our last game,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “The other nine were out with the flu, and Samantha Hinkle stepped up and played with us to make a team.”

The team lost to Stamford in the tournament, 21-12. Scoring were Robin Lucas 3 and Kiana Roberson 9.

The girls defeated Winters 12-11 in the tournament. Scoring were Lucas 1, Brooklyn Abbate 2, Maci Hatchett 3, Ashlyn Holson 4, and Braylyn Abbate 2.

“This is going to be a successful group,” Peacock said. “They have the heart and desire to work hard.”
