Albany’s junior high 7-on-7 team wrapped up its summer season Monday, June 26 with a pair of victories against opponents from Anson and Hamlin.

Throughout its brief schedule, the team regularly competed against older opponents from larger cities. Anthony Ceder, who coached the team with Clint Chapman, said most of the teams Albany faced were select teams from places like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio with players as old as 15.

The Albany team – Landrin Archuleta, Graham Ceder, Clay Chapman, Cash Edgar, Rush Kidd, Jordan Knight, Bennett Neece, Jakobi Roberson, Ace Vickers, and Aiden Vickers – consisted entirely of students who will enter eighth grade this fall.

Even in the final two games, which were played at Anson, Albany faced opponents that will essentially be the junior varsity teams at Anson and Hamlin this fall.

Albany defeated Anson 21-0 and Hamlin 14-7, scoring late to break a 7-7 tie in the second game.

“Keep in mind, those were basically high school teams, and our kids were rising eighth graders,” Anthony Ceder said.
