The junior high basketball teams fared well against Stamford on Monday, with the girls and boys both winning two out of three games.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs will play Roscoe next Monday, with the boys hosting and the girls on the road. Games start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

The 7A girls defeated Stamford 30-19 at home on Monday.

“I really thought the girls hustled well against Stamford,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “We created some turnovers to lead by 10 at the half. They played really hard and are starting to see the floor and make good passes.”

Scoring were Robin Lucas 6, Brooklyn Abbate 2, Robyn Trail 2, Jaci Chapman 2, Ashlyn Holson 6, Kiana Roberson 6, and Braylyn Abbate 6.

The 8A girls fell 40-17 to Stamford.

“We had a great first half,” coach Ginger Norton said. “There was a lot of hustle and the girls played great defense, but we didn’t make a basket in the fourth and missed too many free throws.”

Scoring for the eighth grade were Briley Tabor 10, Brooke Kayga 2, Gracie Price 2, Chelsy Parsons 2, and Brilee Moore 1.

The girls B team edged out Stamford 13-12.

Scoring were Cambree Clegg 4, Mayson Garcia 4, Chloe Broadus 3, and Kaedyn Nowell 2.

The 7A boys won their game in Stamford, 30-21.

“We did a lot of good things in transition,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We passed the ball well and got the ball down the floor quickly.”

He said that the team missed a number of shots around the basket.

“The guys responded well late when Stamford made a run and we were able to once again find a rhythm created by more defensive pressure,” he said.

Scoring were Cason Fairchild 2, Lute Wheeler 3, Adam Hill 17, and Lanxton Viertel 8.

The 8A team lost to the Bulldogs 31-24.

“We got down early but the guys kept battling and got back in the game in the second half,” Peacock said. “We did a good job keeping them out of the paint, but gave up too many open shots.”

Scoring were London Fuentes 8, Caden Price 5, Cole Chapman 7, Andrew Leverton 1, and Keatin Russell 3.

The combined B team won their bout, 10-8.

Scoring were Tyler Waddell 6, Tyler Chapman 2, and Cole Read 2.

“We were able to get to the basket quite a bit, but unfortunately we didn’t get a lot of shots to fall,” Peacock said. “Defensively we played well again, not giving up many second chance opportunities. We defended their shooters and overall played pretty well on that end of the floor.”
