All four of the junior high track teams fared well at the District 10-2A meet last Saturday in Hamlin, with the eighth grade boys winning their division.

The eighth grade boys scored a total of 160.3 points for first place. The seventh grade boys scored 133 points to take second place.

In the girls division, the seventh grade team was third with 66 points, while the eighth grade girls finished in fifth with a total of 59 points.

“We were well represented throughout the meet, with lots of kids scoring points for both boys teams,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “I pushed these guys at this meet to do events some had never done in order to help the team, and they came through for us.”

He particularly praised the eighth grade boys.

“The eighth grade has a strong group, and I am excited to see how they develop over the next four years,” he said.  “It was a testament to how much our kids love to compete considering how well they did without much practice.”

Girls seventh grade coach Ginger Norton said she was proud of how her team competed.

“They competed well in a tough district,” she said. “They came together as a team despite having a short season.”

Eighth grade girls coach M.J. Reneau said she saw a big improvement in her team as well.

“I think this group of girls has a bright future in high school,” she said. “We had several personal records set and times improved.”
