Jr. high track teams compete in Anson, Cross Plains

TheAlbanyJuniorHigh track teams opened their season with two meets in the past week, winning three team titles.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs will be off through spring break, returning to action on Friday, March 22 at Clyde.

Albany competed Thursday, Feb. 29 in the Anson Tiger Relays and Monday, March 4 at the Buffalo Relays at Cross Plains.

At Anson, the seventh grade boys won the team title and the seventh grade girls finished second. The eighth grade boys placed fifth with the eighth grade girls sixth.

The meet did not conduct field events.

The seventh grade boys scored 93 points, winning the 400 relay and 1600 relay along with a second-place finish in the 800 relay. Four individuals placed second – Slayton Parsons in the 200, Blake Britting in the 800, Ben Russell in the 1600, and Bentley Boyett in the 300 hurdles.

“I thought the seventh graders did a good job of competing in the first meet of their careers,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “For some of them, it was probably their first time at a track meet, so it was nice for them to see everything andbeabletogetsomefirst meet jitters out of the way. It was a good opportunity for us to evaluate our kids and try and get them into events they can grow into throughout the rest of the season.”

The seventh grade girls totaled 84 points, winning the 800 and 1600 relays while taking second in the 400 relay. Individually, Kenzee Roysdon was third in both the 100 and 200, while Avery Gleitz was third 400.

The eighth grade boys scored 34 points. The 800 relay finished second and Seth Barrett was second in the 800.

The eighth grade girls scored 10 points. Cayla Green accounted for all the scoring, finishing third in the 1600 and fourth in the 800.

At Cross Plains,Albany won both seventh grade team titles with the eighth grade boys taking second. The eighth grade girls placed seventh.

The seventh grade boys scored 192 points, double the total of runnerup De Leon. Albany won two relays and was second in the other.

Lyle Wheeler (100, high jump) and Blake Britting (800, pole vault) each won two events, while Boyett won the 300 hurdles, and Sam Tidwell won the discus.

Levi Murphy was second in the 100 and Russell was second in the 800. Britting, Trevor Bellah, and Murphy swept the pole vault.

Boyett added a secondplace finish in the 110 hurdles, Ace Townson and Russellwent2-3inthe400, and Parsons was third in the 200.

The seventh grade girls scored 163 points, winning two relays and placing third in the other.

Kynlee Milligan won the 800 and 1600 with Haiden Niell second in the 800. Tinley Hefner won the pole vault with Hattie Fikes third.

Fikes was second in the high jump with Milligan and Niell tying for third. Fikes was also third in the 400.

KeeleyBrittingwassecond in the long jump and third in the 200 as Albany took three places in the race. Roysdon was second in the discus and third in the shot put, another event in whichAlbany had three of the top six.

The eighth grade boys finished with 124 points, taking second in the 800 relay and scoring in the 1600 relay.

Jakobi Roberson (100, triple jump) and Clay Chapman(200,longjump) each won two events. Roberson addedasecond-place finish in the high jump.

Aiden Vickers, Rush Kidd, and Slayton Kelly went 1-2-3 in the pole vault. Bennett Neece was second in the discus, one of three events in which he placed, andAce Vickers was third in the 400.

The eighth grade girls scored 17 points, placing in the 400 and 800 relays.

Finlee Brown was third in the 100 hurdles, Kamryn Graham was fourth in the discus, and Zoey George was sixth in the shot put.
