Jr. high track set Monday

Albany Cubs and Lady Cubs track athletes had their final outing before the district meet on Thursday, March 28 when they hosted the Cub Relays.

The junior high teams close out their season Monday, April 8 with the district meet at Hamlin.

“This may have been the best weather we’ve had fora meet all season,” said girls coachLaurenPeacock, who had consecutive high school meets affected by rain the previous two weeks.

The Cub Relays did not keep official results and events were not scored. Ribbons were awarded in all heats of running events.

“The main thing was getting the kids on the track and running some races,” boys coach Ryder Peacock said.

He said Albany athletes did particularly well in field events.

“We went 1-2-3 in long jump and 1-2-4 in the high jump,” he said. “The pole vaulters did well on both sides, and it’s my understanding that just about everybody placed in shot put and discus.”

On the track, he said, coaches put people in different events from those they’ve been running.

“We tried things out before district to put our selves in position to do as well as we can as a team,” he said.
