Jr. high tennis team plays at district

The Albany junior high tennis team brough home several medals from last week’s district tournament, including gold in both girls and boys doubles.
There were also several silver medals for local players, who missed out on any other action during the short season because the district meet was earlier than in past.
In addition, the eighth graders didn’t have a season at all last spring due to the COVID shutdown.
“Our district meet was earlier than in the past,” said tennis coach Sara Wilson. “We just had a few practices, and it was all very rushed.”
The tourney was held Wednesday, May 5 at the Rose Park tennis complex in Abilene.
Other participating schools were Stamford and Hawley.
Seventh graders Mimi Ivy and Caroline Chapman won their doubles division, while Cade Fairchild and Woods Peterson topped the seventh grade boys doubles play.
Several others also placed in their categories, according to Wilson.
“All the competitors did a great job, and there is a lot of potential in this group,” said Wilson. “I was very proud of the way they represented Albany.”
