The Cubs and Lady Cubs won three out of four games during their opening set of games on Monday.

The junior high girls won both bouts against the visiting Abilene Christian School teams, while the boys split games with ACS in Abilene.

The four Albany teams are scheduled to play Cisco next Monday, Nov. 23, with the girls on the road and the boys at home.

The junior high girls are putting a Red team and a White team on the floor this season, both with a mixture of seventh and eighth grades.

The Red team edged out ACS 19-17.

“It was a hard-fought first game for us, but the girls pulled it off,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Caroline Holson led the team by hustling throughout the game. We learned a lot in that game and are ready to improve.”

Scoring for the Red team were Abi Hale 4, Caroline Holson 6, Avery Everitt 6, Kenzie Neve 1, and Julia Vega 2.

The girls White team shut out ACS 49-0 on Monday.

Scoring for the team were Kaisley Bartee 2, Braylee Clark 8, Caroline Chapman 10, Avarie Myrick 27, and Hannah MacKenzie 2.

“This was a great way to start the season,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “The girls hustled through the entire game.”

The coach credited Avarie Myrick for leading the offense with 27 points, while Kaisley Bartee had 13 steals to lead the defense.

“I can’t wait to see how this team progresses this season,” the coach said.

The seventh grade Cubs brought home a 51-22 win over ACS in their opener.

“I thought the guys did a great job for their first game of the season,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “They were aggressive out front and created a lot of turnovers for easy scoring opportunities.”

The coach said that he was able to involve a large number of players on the offense to gain experience.

Scoring were Brodey Oliver 11, Woods Peterson 3, Calhan Fairchild 8, Cade Fairchild 14, Huffman Heatly 6, Lane Helle 4, Breylon Billington 1, Jackson Shack 2, and Max Oliver 2.

The eighth grade Cubs didn’t fare as well against ACS, losing 66-11.

Scoring were Ashton Bailey 2, Dalton Richards 5, Hagen Miller 1, and Ethan Green 3.
