The Cubs and Lady Cubs split games against Anson on Monday, with the seventh grade boys and the White team girls both earning wins.

All four squads will take a three-week break for the Christmas holidays, returning to action on Thursday, Jan. 7. The girls will be on the road playing at Abilene Christian School, while the boys will host ACS. Games at both locations will start at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Cubs Games

The girls Red team, playing at home, lost to Anson on Monday, 24-9, dropping to 3-2 for the season.

“We couldn’t get things going for us,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “We struggled with scoring, but our defense in the second half was much better. We found that there are still things we need to get better at, and we are improving with each game.”

Scoring for the team were Abi Hale 4, Caroline Holson 3, and Gabby Lopez 2.

The White team members won their game against Anson, 25-6.

“This was a great way to finish the first round of the season,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “I love that these girls give 100 percent with every play.”

The coach said that the team played great defense, keeping Anson completely off the boards in the first and third quarters.

Scoring were Avarie Myrick 6, Caroline Chapman 5, Kaisley Bartee 4, Braylee Clark 4, and Alli McDaniel 4.

Boys Details

The Cubs played in Anson on Monday, with the seventh grade bringing back a 30-21 win.

“We played well on defense,” coach David Fairchild said. “We need to shore up some turnovers on offense.”

The team improved to 5-0 for the season.

Scoring were Huffman Heatly 14, Cade Fairchild 5, Lane Helle 4, and Mason McCloy 3. Brodey Oliver and Woods Peterson scored two points each.

The eighth grade Cubs lost to Anson 45-18.

“The score isn’t very flattering, but that is not our focus,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We will continue to demand that our kids do all the things that they are coached to do. Execution, hustle, and discipline continue to be our focal points.”

The coach said that he feels the victories will come in the future once the team learns the important aspects of the game.

Scoring for the Cubs were Jace Little 3, Jake Hale 4, Hagen Miller 2, Branson Beal 5, and Landon Balliew 4.
