The two junior high football teams came home with victories last week, although against different opponents.

Both the seventh and eighth grade squads will play Thursday (today), with the eighth grade hosting Hico at 5:00 p.m.

The seventh graders will be on the road in Hawley for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.

The eighth grade Cubs remained undefeated last week with a 42-0 win over Meridian on the road. The win boosted the Cubs to 3-0 for the season, including 1-0 in district.

“The guys did a great job overall on both sides of the ball,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We didn’t allow many yards during the game, holding the opposing team to only a few first downs, including coming up with a turnover caused by John Birkla.”

The coach praised the team for their offensive production, including six different running backs. The group included Ashton Bailey, Dalton Richards, Branson Beal, Jake Hale, Ethan Green, and Andre Gjerpe.

“We moved the ball well on offense and got big runs from each of those guys,” he said.

Dalton Richards scored on a six-yard carry to open the battle, followed by a Branson Beal pass to Richards for the two-point play.

Beal increased the score to 14-0 with a 30-yard run also in the first. The conversion failed.

Late in the first, Richards scored for a second time on a run, with the quarter ending 20-0.

Beal had another touchdown keeper in the second for a 26-0 lead at the half.

In the third, Richards scored on a run, followed by a two-point pass from Beal to Richards.

The final touchdown came on a 35-yard run by Jake Hale. Beal passed to Brody Brown for the two-point play to end the game at 42-0.

7th Grade Game

The seventh grade Cubs brought back a 20-6 win from Eastland last Thursday.

Lane Helle scored all three touchdowns for the Cubs on runs of 34, 75, and 80 yards.

Cade Fairchild ran in one of the three conversions for two points.

“I thought that Lane Helle and Calhan Fair-child both ran hard for us,” coach David Fairchild said. “Defensively, the Cubs had a good night.”

The coach named Huffman Heatly, Woods Peterson, Calhan Fairchild, and Lane Helle as defensive standouts.

Breylon Price was also commended for several tackles on special teams.
