The Albany junior high basketball teams saw their seasons come to an unexpectedly early end this week with the winter weather afflicting the area playing a large part.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs were to have played Stamford on Monday, Jan. 30 to wrap up the schedule. Those games were postponed to Thursday, Feb. 2 (tonight), as District 10-2A high school games scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31, were moved up a day in an attempt to beat the oncoming storm.

Albany ISD athletic director Ryder Peacock said no district games ended up being played Monday, and all were rescheduled for tonight, leading district members to cancel junior high games.

In a late result from last week, the seventh grade boys team defeated Haskell 35-8 on Monday, Jan. 23, in what turned out to be the team’s final game.

The Cubs outscored Haskell 8-2 in the first quarter and continued to increase the margin the rest of the way. Albany led 19-5 at halftime and 23-5 entering the fourth quarter.

Bennett Neece scored 15 points and Clay Chapman had 14 to lead the Cubs. Aiden Vickers added six points.
