The Cubs and Lady Cubs played a full set of games on Monday with mixed results.

The junior high teams will be idle over the Christmas break, resuming play on Jan. 9 in Cross Plains.

The eighth grade girls posted a 31-19 win over the visiting Roscoe girls, improving to 4-4 season and 4-1 in district.

“This was a great team win,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “We had a lot of good things happen, and I think the girls are starting to figure out our press, which makes us pretty deadly.”

The coach added that the team had some good offensive sets that led to shots underneath the basket.

Scoring were Ashlyn Holson 12, Robin Lucas 5, Maci Hatchett 2, and Kiana Roberson 12.

The seventh grade team and the combined B team both lost to Roscoe.

The 7A girls fell 22-13, dropping to 3-1 in district and 5-4 overall.

“The girls played hard against a good Roscoe defense,” Wilson said. “We were pressured the entire game bringing up the ball, but the girls did a good job of handling that and running our offensive sets.”

Scoring were Kenzie Neve 3, Avery Everitt 1, Julia Vega 4, and Makenna McNeill 5.

The combined B team also lost, 12-6.

“We struggled to get the ball down the floor against a good defense,” Wilson said. “Our girls did a great job helping on defense.”

Scoring were Katie Breeden 4, and Chey’Anne Weaver 2.

Boys Play in Roscoe

The 8A boys dominated the Plowboys with a 53-13 victory, remaining undefeated at 5-0.

“We played solid offense through the entire game, and we also had a good night defensively,” coach David Fairchild said.

Scoring for the Cubs were Cason Fairchild 2, Cole Read 3, Lute Wheeler 4, Adam Hill 12, Zane Waggoner 14, Bryce Herring 4, and Lanxton Viertel 14.

The 7A boys lost on Monday, 27-15.

“Every game continues to be a learning experience for us,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “Right now we are learning about the things that we can’t do just as much as we are the things we have to do to stay competitive. We are stressing to the guys that they have to implement the things that we are working on in practice.”

Scoring for Albany were Ashton Bailey 6, Branson Beal 5, Landon Balliew 2, and Jake Hale 2.

The combined B team won their game, 20-13, over Roscoe.

“The guys continue to be on a roll with this win,” Fuentes said. “They are shooting the ball well and getting a lot of take-aways on defense. They have shown improvement every time they have taken the court.”

Scoring for Albany were Brayden Watson 7, J.J. Clark 8, Cooper Edgar 3, and Ty Richards 2.
