Jr. high season ends one week early

The Albany Junior High basketball season came to an end a week earlier than expected Monday, Jan.29 with games against Stamford.

Games against Abilene Christian scheduled for Feb. 5 have been cancelled.

Against Stamford, the Cubs played at home with the Lady Cubs on the road.

8th Grade Boys

Clay Chapman’s3-pointer at the buzzer lifted the eighth grade Cubs to a 30-28 win.

Chapman finished with 18 points, while Aiden Vickers scored eight and Bennett Neece added four.

Albany trailed most of the second half before battling back in the final minutes.

“I was very proud of our fourth-quarter effort,” eighth grade coach David Fairchild said. “We were a little off in the third and had several turnovers, but werefocusedinthefourth.”

The Cubs made four-3-pointers in the final period and went 3 of 4 on free throwswithVickershitting key shots at the line down the stretch.

“Cash and Colter Edgar did a good job rebounding, and Bennett Neece was physical inside, as well.” Fairchildsaid.“AidenVickers did a good job taking care of the ball, and Clay Chapman had a good night shooting.Theseyoungmen have done a great job this year.”

The eighth grade Cubs finished the season with a 10-2 record.

7th Grade Boys

TheseventhgradeCubs wrapped up their season with a 30-12 win over Stamford.

Albany took control by scoring 12 points in the second quarter.

Lyle Wheeler scored 10 points with Jathan Perez adding nine. Blake Britting chipped in six points withAceTownsonandSam Tidwell scoring two points apieceandBenRussellone.

Albany A Girls

Illness forced the Lady Cubs to split into A and B teams as just two eighth graders were available among 11 total players.

The Lady Cubs A team lost30-14atStamfordwith six players in uniform.

Albany trailed 20-6 at halftime before playing Stamfordwithintwopoints in the second half.

Keeley Britting scored six points with Kamryn Grahamaddingfour.Tinley Hefner and Kynlee Milligan each scored two points.

Albany B Girls

With just five players available, the Lady Cubs B team lost 21-7.

Albany trailed 14-2 at halftime.

Haiden Niell, Hattie Fikes,andKenzeeRoysdon each scored two points. Sawyer Shoaf scored one.
