The junior high volleyball teams were busy last week with a tournament in Graham, as well as games at Wylie on Monday.

The 7B also played in Moran on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

Albany will host both seventh and eighth grade games on Monday against Ranger starting at 4:30 p.m. to close out the season.

The seventh grade girls won two out of three matches at the Graham tournament to earn the runner-up spot.

Albany defeated Kirby 25-16, 25-17 in the first round, also beating Graham 25-20, 25-21 in the second match. Their only loss was to Barwise, 18-25, 10-25.

“I’m proud of the way we competed in the tournament,” coach Ginger Norton said. “It was homecoming weekend and several of the girls were involved in other activities.”

Cumulative totals for serves in the tournament included Robin Lucas 11, Sidney Russell 10, Kiana Roberson 7, Ashlyn Holson 2, and Braylyn Abbate 1.

The eighth grade girls lost two of three rounds in the tournament including falling to Barwise A 8-25, 9-25. Albany won their middle match over Kirby A 25-17, 25-18, but fell to Graham A in the third round 10-25, 8-25.

“The girls played well, but we still need to work on our defense,” coach Sara Wilson said.

Scoring on serves were Gracie Price 9, Chloe Broadus 2, Ella Webb 5, Presley Green 12, Briley Tabor 6, Haily Cox 7, and Brooke Kayga 10.

Offensive standouts were Green and Kayga, while Green, Tabor, and Cox were named for defense.

Wylie Results

Albany lost both matches at Wylie on Monday.

The eighth grade lost 13-25, 6-25.

“This was a tough match,” Wilson said. “We played well in the first set, but their serves were hard to receive and our defense struggled.”

Scoring on serves were Price 3, Webb 2, Green 4, Tabor 1, Cox 2, and Kayga 2.

The seventh graders dropped their match to Wylie A 13-25, 19-25.

Leading on serves were Lucas 10, Russell 4, Roberson 3, Holson 2, and Abbate 2.

“We played a competitive second set against Wylie, but came up short,” Norton said.
