The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs volleyball teams wrapped up a busy midseason stretch last week and embarked on the second half of their district schedule this week.

The girls make their final road trip Monday, Oct. 2, with the Red and White teams visiting Hawley.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Red and White teams traveled to Ranger. The matches concluded a stretch in which Albany Junior High teams played 14 matches in 13 days.

At Ranger, the White squad lost 18-25, 21-25.

“We really struggled in serve receive to break the serve with a good pass,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “We tried to make some adjustments, but we’ll take it as a learning curve and keep working to get better. They worked hard, and their serves were better also.”

The Red defeated Ran-ger 25-15, 25-15.

“These girls were disciplined and stayed focused this game,” Peacock said. “They did a great job of passing, setting, and hitting; it looked good and was fun to see.”

Hailey Gleitz was top server in the match.

“She was the most consistent,” Peacock said. “I also want to brag on Tinley Hefner. She’s always in the right place at the right time and hustles everywhere she goes.”

On Monday, Sept. 25, all three teams lost at Abilene Christian. The Silver team fell 23-25, 24-26.

“This game was neck-and-neck the entire time,” Peacock said. “The girls had a couple of communication breakdowns and missed serves at crucial times. They are continuing to work hard and getting better every game.”

The White team lost 19-25, 20-25.

“They also had breakdowns in communication and serve receive, and we dug ourselves a hole,” Peacock said. “They never gave up and kept fighting.”

The Red team lost 16-25, 16-25.

“ACS has some phenomenal talent on their junior high team,” Peacock said. “They have solid jump servers and can attack very well. With that being said, I thought we responded much better this game versus earlier in the season, which is what I was wanting to see. We served extremely well and played great defense. I was beyond proud of the way they played and worked. I told the girls that was a win in my eyes.”
