The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs put three teams on the court Monday, Aug. 21 for their opening matches against Abilene Christian at the Albany gym.

The Lady Cubs return to action Monday, Aug. 28 at Hawley.

High school coach M.J. Reneau said the plan is to continue with three teams whenever possible, but next week against Hawley will have just two matches. All three teams contain a mixture of seventh and eighth grade players.

“Overall, with only two days of practice I’m beyond impressed with their level,” Lady Cubs coach Lauren Peacock said. “It will be a work in progress as they learn our defense and become comfortable on the court together. They have been working hard and are eager to keep learning, which is fun to see.”

Against ACS, the Silver team lost 25-3, 23-25, 13-15. Cayla Green was the leading server with six service points.

The White team lost 16-25, 25-18, 4-15. Tara Cauble got on a roll, serving five points in a row.

The Red team lost 13-25, 13-25.

After facing Hawley, Albany’s next outing will be Thursday, Sept. 7 at Bangs because of the Labor Day holiday.
