Jr. high girls earn wins

The Lady Cubs volleyball teams earned a pair of wins at home over Hawley on Monday.

The junior high teams have a busy schedule over the next week, playing in a tournament in Hawley on Saturday and traveling back to Hawley on the Monday.

Albany has entered three teams in the Hawley tournament for Saturday, with games starting at 9:00 a.m. for the local squads.

Three teams will also return to Hawley on Monday starting at 4:30 p.m.

The 7A travel team will also be on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 25 for a 4:00 p.m. match in Woodson.

Game Details

The seventh grade girls defeated Hawley on Monday in two sets 25-22, 25-0.

Kiana Roberson had five serves and Robin Lucas scored on four in the first set, according to coach Ginger Norton.

In the second set, Lucas scored all the points on 25 straight serves, including seven acres.

“Robin did an outstanding job on all her serves,” Norton said. “The team is getting better with their serves and passing.”

The eighth grade girls beat Hawley 27-25, 25-20.

“This is a great group of girls to work with,” coach Sara Wilson said. “They work hard and are improving each week.”

Scoring on serves were Gracie Price, 5; Ella Webb, 9; Presley Green, 3; Brooke Kayga, 3; Leddie Leech, 5; and Haily Cox, 5.

The coach named Webb, Price, Leech, and Cox as offensive standouts, along with Green, Kayga and Cox on defense.

One of the seventh grade teams also played Newcastle on Sept. 11, losing 6-25, 19-25.

Scoring were Ashley Sanchez with four serves including one ace, Maci Hatchett with one, and Cambree Clegg with one.

Results of two games played Tuesday at ACMS were not available at press time.
