The Cubs and Lady Cubs made a clean sweep of basketball games against Hamlin on Monday, with the girls winning on the road and the boys at home.

The teams will play Anson next Monday. The girls will stay at home and the boys will be in Anson. Games start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

The Red team girls improved to 3-1 for the season with a 27-7 win in Hamlin on Monday.

“The girls did a great job of beating Hamlin,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “They did really well taking the ball to the basket. Katie Breeden did a great job on defense by getting a lot of rebounds and steals.”

Abi Hale was picked as the offensive standout, scoring 12 points for Albany. Also scoring were Caroline Holson 3, Kenzie Neve 6, Julia Vega 4, and Gabby Lopez 2.

The White team edged out Hamlin 22-20 in a game that was close all four quarters.

“The girls played great defense the entire game and never gave up,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “We have a 2-2 record and have one more game before the Christmas break.”

Braylee Clark was the high scorer with 10 points, along with Caroline Chapman and Mimi Ivy with four each, and Kaisley Bartee and Avarie Myrick with two points each.

Boys Results

The eighth grade Cubs earned a commanding 52-9 win over Hamlin on Monday.

“We were the more athletic team and it showed in this game,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We did a good job of running the floor and scoring on transitions.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Branson Beal 15, Dalton Richards 14, Ashton Bailey 12, Ethan Green 5, and Landon Balliew 4.

The seventh grade Cubs also racked up a big win, 35-8, remaining undefeated at 3-0 for the season.

“I was very pleased with our defense,” coach David Fairchild said. “Brody Oliver, Lane Helle, Huffman Heatly, and Calhan Fairchild had some big rebounds. I think our guards, Mason McCloy, Woods Peterson, and Cade Fairchild did a good job of pressing.”

Heatly and Cade Fairchild led the team with 11 points each, followed by McCloy 5, Brody Oliver 2, Lane Helle 2, and Woods Peterson 2.

The boys B team also won at home Monday, handing Hamlin a 23-3 loss to improve to 2-1 for the season.

“Overall, it was a good win,” Fairchild said. “Ty Richards and Brody Brown had good games on offense, while John Birkla and Mugoya Turner grabbed several rebounds for us.”

Scoring in the game were Ty Richards with 11, followed by Brody Brown with 8, John Birkla 2, and Jackson Shack 2.
