Jr. high boys host tournament

The Albany Cubs were busy last week hosting a tournament, with both the 7A and 8A teams going undefeated.

The Cubs also won two of three games on Monday against Stamford, while the girls were on the road in Stamford, suffering a pair of losses.

The girls will compete in the Stamford Tournament on Thursday, with the eighth grade starting at 8:00 a.m. against Winters and the seventh grade set to play the winner of the Winters vs. Stamford game at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The junior high basketball season will end on Monday with the girls hosting Roscoe in sets starting at 5:30 p.m. The boys will play in Roscoe, also getting underway at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Beat Stamford

Stamford handed the eighth grade Cubs a 32-20 loss on Monday.

“Our scoring output wasn’t as good as in the tournament,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We couldn’t get much to fall for us.”

Scoring were London Fuentes 3, Caden Price 7, Cole Chapman 6, and Keatin Russell 4.

The 7A boys defeated Stamford on Monday, 28-10.

Scoring were Houston Heatly 7, Bryson Herring 5, Lute Wheeler 4, Adam Hill 4, and Lanxton Vier-tel 8.

The 7B boys defeated Stamford 25-14. 

Scoring were Tyler Waddell 9, J.J. Clark 3, Jayden Lucas 2, Brayden Watson 9, and Cooper Edgar 1.

The eighth grade boys won both of their tournament games on Saturday, defeating Stamford 26-18 and winning over Munday 24-16.

Scoring totals for both games included Fuentes 6, Cameron Nelson 4, Price 26, Chapman 12, and Russell 2.

The 7A boys won three games in the tourney, starting Thursday with a 27-13 win over the Abilene Hawks.

Scoring were Heatly 2, Cason Fairchild 2, Herring 3, Cole Read 2, Wheeler 3, Hill 7, and Viertel 8.

The team beat Baird 39-3 in the second round played Saturday, with scorers including Heatly 6, Herring 8, Fairchild 4, Wheeler 7, Read 5, and Hill 9.

The 7A team won the third round over Anson, 31-12. Scoring were Heatly 1, Herring 2, Wheeler 6, Hill 18, and Viertel 4.

The 7B team lost to Baird 25-8 in the tourney. Tyler Waddell scored all eight points.

The B team also lost to Stamford in the second round, 24-11. Scoring were Watson 4 and Waddell 7.

Girls Lose in Stamford

The Lady Cubs dropped both games in Stamford on Monday.

The eighth grade fell 33-18 to Stamford. Scoring were Brylee Moore 12, Ella Webb 4, and Haily Cox 2.

The seventh grade team also lost, 25-17. 

Scoring were Callan Edgar 1, Robin Lucas 2, Jaci Chapman 1, Ashlyn Holson 3, and Kiana Roberson 10.
