The 8A Cubs continue to rack up victories to remain undefeated, while the 7A team split the last two games to post a 2-1 record.

The boys will host Hawley on Monday, Dec. 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. with a combined B team game. The 7A game will follow at about 6:30 p.m., and the 8A should take the floor at 7:30 p.m.

The 8A team picked up a 59-17 win over Haskell on Nov. 25 prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

“It was a good win all the way around,” coach David Fairchild said. “Adam Hill and Lanxton Viertel had big nights on offense, while Zane Waggoner played a great defensive game.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Cason Fairchild 3, Cole Read 3, Lute Wheeler 8, Adam Hill 19, Zane Waggoner 6, and Lanxton Viertel 20.

The eighth grade team hosted Stamford on Monday, coming up with a 42-8 win to move to 3-0 for the season.

“The guys played a good game on offense and defense,” the coach said.

Scoring were Read 6, Wheeler 2, Hill 22, Waggoner 12, and Viertel 1.

The 7A boys edged out Haskell 38-36 on Nov. 25 in Haskell.

“I was proud of the way our kids played hard in a tight game that went back and forth,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We really executed well at the end during a pressure situation to pull out the win.”

The coach said that Hagan Miller hit the game winning shot with three seconds remaining in the game on an inbound play from Ashton Bailey.

Scoring were Bailey 15, Jace Little 1, Branson Beal 12, Landon Balliew 4, and Miller 4.

“We just have to get a little better at learning situational basketball and to learn the points in the game where we need to be aggressive and when to stay in control.”

The 7A team lost to Stamford 39-6 on Monday to fall to 2-1 for the season.

“Stamford has a very aggressive, athletic, and fundamentally sound team that puts a lot of pressure on you to play at a certain speed,” Fuentes said. “They forced us into quite a few turnovers and were able to score a lot of points. We need to do a better job of minimizing those opportunities.”

Scoring were Balliew 2, Ethan Green 3, and Beal 1.

The combined B team defeated Stamford 14-9 this week.

“Our guys were able to pull out this win due to a good defensive effort,” Fuentes said. “We did a good job of making Stamford have to live outside the lane and not give up any easy scores.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Cooper Edgar 6, J.J. Clark 2, and Brayden Watson 6.
