The Lady Cubs hosted Hawley on Monday, with two of the three teams losing.

The 8A team was edged out 40-38 by the visitors.

“It was a very hard-fought game, but we came up short,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Ashlyn Holson did a great job of taking the ball to the basket and finishing.”

The coach said the team had problems at the free throw line, finishing with 39 percent.

Holson was named the offensive leader of the game.

Scoring were Holson 18, Robin Lucas 7, Callan Edgar 1, Braylyn Abbate 1, and Kiana Roberson 11.

The 7A girls won their bout against Hawley, 10-9, in a fourth quarter comeback.

“We started off in a slump and were down the entire game until the fourth period,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “We were tied until Caroline Holson made the winning shot with 45 seconds left. The girls never gave up.”

Scoring for Albany were Caroline Holson 5, Abi Grace Hale 2, Makenna McNeill 2, and Ann Davis 1.

The combined B team lost to Hawley 15-6.

“We started the game well but got tired,” Fowler said. “We played with only six girls, so there wasn’t a good way to rest them. But they fought hard the entire game and gave it their all.”

Scoring were Avery Burns 2 and Emily Schedule 4.

Albany Boys Results

The eighth game Cubs continued their winning streak, posting a 33-23 win over Hawley on Monday.

“This was a good game for us,” coach David Fair-child said. “Adam Hill and Zane Waggoner had good offensive games for us.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Hill 20, Waggoner 7, Bryson Herring 3, and Lanxton Viertel 3.

The 7A team lost to Hawley, 23-15.

“We simply didn’t have good offensive output,” said coach Jimmy Fuentes. “We only had two points at the half because shots weren’t falling for guys who usually lead us in scoring. We are learning about being consistent and putting together a complete game.”

Scorers were Jace Little 3, Dalton Richards 2, Jake Hale 2, Landon Balliew 2, and Hagen Miller 6.

The combined B team defeated Hawley 25-16.

“This was a first for us in that we got behind and had to come back to take the lead,” Fuentes said. “The guys did it with good defense and turnovers, while also hitting timely open shots.”

Scorers were Brayden Watson 7, Andre Gjerpe 4, Ty Richards 6, and Cooper Edgar 8.
