Illness in Moran teams forces forfeits to Eula

The Moran Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs basketball teams battled sickness and opponents last week with the situation continuing into this week.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Cross Plains on Tuesday, Jan. 24, but the boys game was postponed to Wednesday, Jan. 25, because of too many players being out sick. Results will be reported next week.

Health issues forced Moran to forfeit games against Eula on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

On Friday, Jan. 20, the Lady Bulldogs lost 26-24 at home to Baird, while the boys lost 54-28.

Girls Basketball

Against Baird, Moran saw the deciding basket fall with eight seconds left. The Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 16-10 halftime deficit to lead 18-17 after three quarters.

Alli Scott led Moran with 17 points. Alyssa Allred had six points and Samantha Hinkle scored one.

Boys Basketball

Baird took control early and led 31-11 at halftime.

Ellis Hise led Moran with nine points, while Cotten Campbell had six. Connor Hail added four points, followed by Tyler Waddell and Zech Henderson with three apiece, Chase Murk with two, and Caleb York with one.

Junior High

The Moran Junior High team played three games in three days, starting with a split at the Blanket tournament.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, Moran lost 34-17 to Blanket before beating Brookesmith 20-12. On Monday, Jan. 23, Moran lost to May 37-17.

Against Blanket, Lan­don Moreno scored 12 points with Garrett Hamilton adding eight and Dylan Herod two.

Against Brookesmith, Moran posted a 10-4 edge in the second half after leading by two at the break. Hamilton scored 13 points and Moreno had seven.

Against May, Hamilton had eight points, Moreno had seven and Maekayla Kersey added two.
