The Albany Athletic Booster Club met on Monday, July 9 to start planning for the upcoming ice cream supper, the football ad program, and other Booster sponsored activities.

The annual Athletic Booster Club ice cream supper will be held on Monday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank Park, according to club president Mindy Ary.

The hamburger meal only costs $7 for the general public, and the high school athletes eat free of charge. Dessert will be homemade ice cream provided by the cheerleaders.

Serving is expected to start around 7:00 p.m., with the program set to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, cheerleaders, volleyball players, and cross country teams will be introduced.

The young girls who are attending the upcoming cheerleading camp will perform a variety of cheers and dance routines at the ice cream supper.

“T-shirts and other merchandise will be sold, as well as athletic T-shirts for $5,” said Ary. “We will also have the varsity ‘A’s for sale for $5.”

Booster Activities

In addition to the ice cream supper, the Athletic Booster Club sponsors many other activities, including decorating the locker rooms, lockers, and team buses. The club supports all of the Albany teams, and the sports banquet held in May is the culminating activity each year.

The Booster Club is not just for varsity football players’ parents. Fans of all school sports, both boys and girls, are invited to join.

“I want to communicate the importance of parental involvement,” said Booster Club vice president Stephen Kayga. “It’s my understanding that many parents don’t wish to assist with the Booster Club because they think that it aims toward football and/or varsity boys sports only, or high school specifically. This, in fact, is NOT true.”

The entire athletics program benefits from the Booster Club including coaches and athletes at the junior high level, according to Kayga.

The Booster Club officers for this year are president Mindy Ary, vice president Stephen Kayga, secretary Tisha Wilkins, and treasurer Shawnee Tischler.
