Hubbard Creek Rangers finish season

The Hubbard Creek Rangers saw their postseason run come to an end Friday, July 15, with their second loss in the Texas West State Tournament.

The Rangers, a combined Intermediate All-Star team of players from Albany an d Breckenridge, went 6-2 during the Little League International Tournament, winning district and sectional championships to advance to the state tourney at Wylie Little League Complex in Abilene.

Albany players on the team were Graham Ceder, Clay Chapman, Colter Edgar, and Aiden Vickers.

Hubbard Creek opened the tournament Wednesday, July 13 with a 10-7 victory against Medina Valley. On Thursday, July 14, the Rangers suffered their first loss, falling13-2 in five innings to Laredo American. The Rangers were eliminated with a16-8 loss in a rematch with Medina Valley on Friday.

Medina Valley then defeated Laredo American twice on Saturday to win the tournament and advance to the Southwest Regional Tournament in Houston.

In the opening game, Hubbard Creek jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the sixth inning, then held on as Medina Valley rallied.

Chapman went 3 for 4 with a double and scored three runs.

Vickers was also 3 for4, hitting a double and a triple. He scored two runs and had one RBI.

Edgar finished 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI, while Ceder was 1 for 4 with a run and two RBIs.

Vickers and Ceder each pitched an inning to close out the win. Vickers worked the sixth and was charged with six unearned runs on four hits, one walk, one strikeout.

Ceder pitched the seventh, allowing a run on a hit and a hit batter.

In the loss to Laredo American, Hubbard Creek saw the game get away by giving up five runs in the second inning and four in the third. The Rangers hurt themselves with 10 errors in the game, leading to seven unearned runs for Laredo.

Hubbard Creek was limited to three hits. Vickers was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Chapman finished 0 for 2 with Ceder and Edgar both going 0 for 1.

Chapman was the starting pitcher, working into the second inning. He was charged with four runs, two earned, on three hits. He had one walk and one strikeout.

Ceder pitched 1.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on three hits. He recorded two walks and two strikeouts.

In the rematch, Hubbard Creek led 4-0 and 6-4 early. Medina Valley then scored 12 runs from the third through sixth innings, turning a 6-4 deficit into a 16-6 lead.

Chapman sparked the Rangers offense, going 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Vickers was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Ceder and Edgar both finished 0 for 2.

Vickers took over on the mound in the fifth inning and finished up. He was charged with eight runs on 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts over three innings.
