The Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association exceeded its fundraising goal with its three-person golf scramble, held Saturday-Sunday, July 22-23, at Albany Golf Course.

The team of Owen, Carson, and Membrilay shot 115 over 36 holes to win the championship flight by three strokes over Kitchens, Barrett, and Walker.

Organizer Reggy Spencer said more than $15,000 was raised to help with the renovation of the Shackelford County livestock barn.

“We beat our goal, so that was good,” Spencer said. “We had 34 teams and 22 sponsors. We couldn’t have done it without the sponsors and the people showing up to play.”

Spencer added that other projects have helped the association meet its target amount to pay for the renovations, allowing the tournament funds to be reallocated.

“When we have the pig sale in September, that’ll go toward the show sale like it has in the past to benefit the kids,” he said. “The golf tournament will be pretty much the same thing – it will just go to the kids and the sale when they sell their projects.”

In the first flight, the teams of Reese, Reese, and Spanky tied for first place with Cauble, Anderson, and Anderson at 125.

In the second flight, five teams shot 133 with Wilcox, Wilcox, and  Zander taking first place on a tiebreaker.
