The varsity Lady Lion basketball team lost both district games last week as the District 10-2A race starts in earnest.

The girls traveled to Stamford on Tuesday, coming home with a 52-28 loss. Details will be reported next week. The loss gave the team a 6-7 overall record and 2-4 mark in district.

Albany will be on the road again on Friday in Haskell. The varsity girls and JV boys will play at 6:00 p.m., while the varsity boys and JV girls will follow at about 7:15 p.m.

The JV teams will play on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in May. The varsity teams have an open date next Tuesday, but will return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 hosting Hawley.

The varsity let Cisco get ahead early lead and were never able to recover in the 58-20 loss to the Lady Loboes.

“We came out flat and couldn’t score,” coach Tate Thompson said. “Against a team like Cisco, missed shots equal fast break and points for them. We have to do a better job of finishing early.”

Cydney Nelson was named the offensive standout and Brylee Moore was picked for defense.

Albany 2 8 7 3 - 20

Cisco 17 10 16 15 - 58

Scoring for Albany were Brylee Moore 3, Nelson 4, Alli Hill 4, Briley Tabor 1, Traci Isbell 3, and Elia Hebel 4.

Albany hosted Anson last Friday, again starting slow and falling 63-39.

“Anson is another strong team in our district,” the coach said. “And once again we came out flat and made some mental mistakes early on. A team like that will take advantage of every mistake you make.”

Torie Fuentes was picked as the offensive standout, while Nelson was picked on defense.

Albany 6 13 8 12 - 39

Anson 17 11 28 7 - 63

Scoring were Fuentes 11, Moore 6, Nelson 3, Hill 10, Tana Thompson 3, and Hebel 6.

JV Girls Results

The JV lost in Cisco 45-30 on Jan. 5.

“We had a great start, but couldn’t hold off a tough Cisco team,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Kiana Roberson did a great job taking the ball to the hole and scoring. We had some great hustle on defense.”

Albany 8 9 3 10 - 30

Cisco 8 11 13 13 - 45

Scoring for the JV were Robin Lucas 3, Ashlyn Holson 8, Roberson 14, Jaci Chapman 2, and Avery Kleiner 3.

The JV hosted Anson last Friday, earning a 28-12 win.

“We played a great game against Anson,” Wilson said. “The entire team worked together to get the win.”
