The varsity Lady Lions split games against opponents just before the Thanksgiving break.

Albany lost their game in Ballinger on Nov. 19, but beat Munday at home on Nov. 20.

The team returned to action this week, traveling to Hamlin on Tuesday and ending up with a close 33-37 loss. Details were not available at press time.

The varsity will play in the Dublin Tournament starting Thursday, with pool games against Crawford and Breckenridge. Bracket games will start on Friday and continue on Saturday.

The JV girls will play in the Woodson Tournament starting Thursday with an 8:30 a.m. game against Moran. Bracket games will continue on Friday and Saturday.

The girls are open on the schedule at the beginning of next week, with the varsity playing in the West Texas Tournament in Stinnett starting Dec. 6. Current plans are for the team to spend the night on Thursday and continue play on Friday.

The varsity lost 47-37 in Ballinger on Nov. 19.

“We played a good first half and were up by seven at the half,” coach Tate Thompson said. “We came out flat in the second half and Ballinger did a great job of finishing their shots. We have to get better at finishing games.”

The team shot 29 percent from the floor and 60 percent at the line.

Jaleigh Morales was named the standout on both offense and defense.

JV Results

The JV girls lost both games last week, falling in Ballinger 39-27.

“The girls came up short, but they did show signs of improvement in main focus areas,” coach Richard Sullivan said.

Sara Smith, Ana Balliew, and Elizabeth Chavez were named offensive standouts, while Tana Thompson and Smith were named for defense.

Scoring were Traci Isbell 4, Smith 4, Chavez 6, Balliew 5, Ansleigh Garcia 4, and Thompson 4.

The JV was edged out 35-33 in overtime at home against Munday on Nov. 20.

“Though the first quarter was sluggish, the JV rallied to give a hard-fought battle that ended in overtime,” Sullivan said. “Even though they didn’t come out with a win, there was a lot of improvement from the previous game and great potential moving forward.”

Scoring in the game were Isbell 2, Smith 6, Chavez 6, Garcia 11, and Thompson 8.

Garcia and Thompson were tapped as offensive standouts, along with Smith, Chavez, and Isbell on defense.
