Girls lose to Haskell teams, split games with Cross Plains

The girls junior high basketball teams traveled to Haskell and Cross Plains for games over the last week and a half.

All three teams lost in Haskell on Nov. 19 and split games against Cross Plains on Monday, Nov. 26.

The 7A team beat Cross Plains 42-6.

“We have been working on our press without success, but it clicked for us this week and the girls ran it well,” seventh grade coach Lauren Peacock said. “We created several turnovers, which resulted in several lay-ups for Robin Lucas and Kiana Roberson.”

Scoring for Albany were Lucas 19, Robyn Trail 2, Ashlyn Holson 5, Kaedyn Nowell 2, and Roberson 12.

The eighth grade girls lost in Cross Plains, 30-23.

Scoring were Brylee Moore 6, Presley Green 6, Haily Cox 5, Ella Webb 4, and Brooke Kayga 2.

The local teams lost all three games in Haskell on Nov. 19.

The 7A girls fell 29-23 to Haskell.

“We missed some easy shots and a lot of free throws,” Peacock said. “But the girls gave it all they had and fought until the end.”

Scoring were Lucas 3, Trail 5, Holson 4, and Roberson 11.

The 8A girls dropped their game 33-9.

“It was a tough loss, but Haskell has been practicing since August and is our toughest competition,” coach Ginger Norton said. “Our girls hustled and never quit.”

Scoring were Moore 5, Briley Tabor 2, and Cox 2.

The combined B team also lost their bout, 16-5. Samantha Hinkle was the top scorer for Albany.
