Girls face C-City for area crown

The Albany Lady Lions wrapped up the regular season and began preparing for the playoffs with a pair of warmup matches over the past week.
The Lady Lions (30-5)had a bye through bi-district and will open postseason play in the area round against Colorado City at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Jim Ned High School in Tuscola.
The winner of that match will play the winner between Coleman and Quanah in the regional quarterfinals on Nov. 8 or 9 at a time and place to be determined.
“I’m excited to start the next phase of the season and see how far this team can go,” Lady Lions coach M.J. Reneau said.
Final Home Game
On Oct. 26, Albany notched its 30th victory of the season, beating Strawn 24-26, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25 on Senior Night.
Senior players on the team, along with their parents, were introduced before action began.

Practice Games
The Lady Lions dropped their two warmup matches, both in four sets. On Saturday, the Lady Lions lost at Tolar 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25. On Monday, Albany lost to Blum 25-22, 15-25, 20-25, 20-25 in a match played at Dublin.
“We had two very tough practice games,” Reneau said. “We’re trying to get as much practice in as we can against good competition to prepare us for the playoffs. This was a challenge for us and just what we needed to push our limits before our playoff run.”

Junior Varsity
Albany’s JV1 team wrapped up its season on Oct. 26 by defeating Strawn 25-8, 25-16.
The Lady Lions finished the season 16-5 overall and were 8-0 in district play.
“We ended a fantastic season with a fun win,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Ella Webb led the team with some great serves, and everybody got in and did a great job. I am so pleased with the season we had this year.”
