Girls drop district outings

The Albany Lady Lions stumbled in their first two District 10-2A basketball outings last week, falling to Cisco and Hawley.

The Lady Lions (5-8 overall, 0-2 district) visited Haskell on Tuesday, Dec. 19 in the final outing before the semester break, losing 46-23.

Albany will resume district play Tuesday, Jan. 2 at home against Hamlin. JVgamesstartat4:00p.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Albany opened the district schedule with a 62-17 setback at Cisco.

“This was a tough game versus a very good Cisco team,” Lady Lions head coach Brad Stautzenberger said. “The girls hustled, but missed some scoring opportunities.”

Albany shot just 17 percent from the floor in the loss.

Kiana Roberson led the Lady Lions with 11 pointsandsevenrebounds. Ashlyn Holson had four pointsandsevenrebounds. Braylyn Abbate grabbed five rebounds, and Madi Parrott had three steals.

Cisco took control early, leading 27-3 in the first quarter.

On Friday, Dec. 15, the Lady Lions lost 53-31 at home to Hawley.

Albany stayed close in the first quarter, then the LadyBearcatspulledaway in the second with an 18-3 edge.

“We had a tough second quarter where we were outscored 15 points,” Stautzenbergersaid.“That made a difference in the game.”

Holson scored 10 points to lead Albany with Roberson adding seven points and Zayne Lefevre six.

Junior Varsity

The Lady Lions JV had a tough time at Cisco, falling 56-16.

Albany fell behind by 18 in the first quarter and trailed by 27 at halftime.

Ashlyn Miller led Albany with six points.

The junior varsity did not play Hawley on Friday.
