High school athletes planning to participate in football, volleyball and cross country have only 10 days of summer left before the start of two-a-day workouts on Monday, Aug. 2.

Summer conditioning programs ended this week for the boys, while the girls will continue to meet through July 29.

Prospective athletes for both volleyball and football were sent letters last week outlining two-a-day practices, along with several forms that must be filled out and signed by both students and parents by the opening day of practices.

Forms required by the school and the UIL include acknowledgement of rules, concession protocol acknowledgement, and steroid restrictions and testing form.

In addition, all students must have a physical exam form completed and returned along with the other forms.

Students had the opportunity to have free physical exams conducted at the school in May. Anyone who did not undergo an exam must obtain one from their doctor or at the local clinic. The clinic requires an appointment and a fee will be charged.

“We have to have all the forms signed and turned in before a student can participate in any practice,” athletic director Ryder Peacock said.

Appointments for physicals can be made at the Shackelford County Health Clinic at 325-762-3661 or ResourceCare at 325-762-2447. Students must take a copy of the required form with them to the appointment.

Physical forms can be obtained at the school office or from a coach.
