FCA boys camp coming up Jan. 27-28

The annual Weekend of Champions leadership camps at Eastland’s Solid Rock Camp are coming up soon.

Separate boys and girls camps serving students from eighth through 12th grades will be held on consecutive weekends.

The boys camp is scheduled for Jan. 27-28, with the girls camp Feb. 3-4.

Local FCA representative Paul Johnston will lead the girls camp with assistance from several Albany residents. Jamie Calvery of Big Country FCA will lead the boys camp.

Johnston said flyers for both camps contain QR codes that will allow youth to register for the events.

Cost is $120 per camper. Johnstonsaidscholarships are available for students who otherwise could not afford to attend.

“I’ve got the money if the kids want to sign up,” Johnston said. “They do not have to be an athlete. We just want kids.”

Johnstonsaidmessages at the camp are specifically aimed at teens.

“It’s like a church camp, only it’s not as churchy,” he said. “We have speakers talking about how to navigate this life to get out of high school before something crazy happens. If a young person does make a mistake, here’s how to fix it.”
