Wesley Estridge placed second in the super heavy weight class at the Hawley Bearcat powerlifting meet on Friday, Feb. 7, with a total lift of 1570 pounds.

He had a 700 pound lift in the squat, bench pressed 405 pounds, and had a dead lift of 465 pounds.

The Albany junior improved his squat by 100 pounds and his bench press by 65 pounds over his previous meet, raising him from fourth to third in his weight class in the current standings for Region 1, Division 3.

The top 11 lifters in each class qualify for the regional tournament, with the top two at regionals advancing to state. Also moving up to state is any lifter who posts a qualifying total at the regional meet.

If Estridge advances to regionals and can lift a total of 1600 pounds at that meet, he would qualify for state regardless of placing.

The top lifter in the SHW class at Hawley was Kolter Willeford of Hawley with a total lift of 1845. Willeford is the current regional leader.

Estridge advanced to regionals last year in the 242 weight class as a member of the Big Lake Reagan County team.
