Albany High School junior Wesley Estridge placed second at a recent powerlifting meet in Coa-homa, recording a three-lift total of 1,405 pounds.

Competing in the super heavy weight class, the 317-pound AHS athlete had a 600-pound lift in the squat, benched 340 pounds, and had a dead lift of 465 pounds.

This is Estridge’s third year to participate, lifting the last two years for Reagan County ISD. He qualified for the regional tournament last year as a sophomore.

Estridge said that he is planning to compete in four or five more meets prior to the regional meet later in the spring. The top 11 lifters in each weight class will qualify for the regional meet, with the top two going to state.

Estridge is currently in fourth place in Region I, Div. 3.

The top lifter in the class at the Coahoma meet was  Hunter Bolton of Ropesville with a combined total of 1,440.

Also ahead of Estridge in the standings are Kolter Willeford of Hawley with 1,850 and Emiliano Hernandez of Eldorado with a 1,595 pound total.

The meets are governed by the Texas High School Powerlifting Association.
