Estridge to compete at state meet

Senior athlete Wesley Estridge has worked his way to the top of Region 6, Division 3 Single Heavy Weight Powerlifting, and has advanced to the state meet, set for Saturday, March 27 in Abilene.

A send-off for Estridge will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, with Estridge weighing in that afternoon at the Taylor County Expo Center and competing on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. 

Tickets are $5 each and are general admission only. Those wishing to attend the meet can purchase tickets at ­taylorcountyexpocenter.com.

“This is the fulfillment of a dream for Wesley,” commented Albany athletic director Ryder Peacock. “Powerlifting is his passion, and he has worked really hard to get where he is.”

The Albany powerlifter enters the meet sitting in the top spot in his weight division based on his regional results, including  Squat at 700 pounds, Bench Press at 420 pounds, and Dead Lift at 500 pounds for a total of 1,620 pounds. 

The regional meet was held in Alvord on March 13.

Estridge’s personal best weights are 775 pounds in Squat, 420 pounds in Bench Press, and 500 pounds in Dead Lift.
