Every member of the Albany Lions varsity boys basketball team received mention on the All-District 10-2A team, which was released this week.

The team was selected by vote of district coaches.

“We were very well represented, having two guys get superlative awards,” Lions coach Ryder Peacock said. “I think the other coaches in our district recognized that these guys got started so late. For them to play as well as they did from the very first tipoff, that recognition means a lot.”

The Lions, who didn’t start their season until late December because of football, finished 14-6 overall, going 9-3 in district to tie Cisco for second place behind Hawley, who also had a late start. The Lions entered the playoffs as the third seed following a coin flip and defeated Seymour in bi-district before falling to Itasca in the area round.

Albany had two superlative selections with junior Adam Hill named Defensive Player of the Year and junior Lute Wheeler tabbed Sixth Man of the Year.

“Adam was by far one of the best defensive players in the district,” Peacock said. “He was a unanimous pick for that position.”

Senior London Fuentes and junior Wyatt Windham earned first-team honors, while juniors Luke Marshall and Lanxton Viertel were voted to the second team.

Junior Brayden Watson and sophomore Branson Beal received honorable mention.

Albany, Hawley, and Cisco all advanced to the second round. Hawley was eliminated by Tolar after defeating Windthorst in bi-district. Cisco lost to No. 1 Lipan in area after beating Archer City in the first round.

Fourth-place Stamford fell to Nocona in bi-district.
