The Albany golf teams hit the links for another busy week in preparation for district competition.

The District 10-2A tournament is scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, April 1-2 at Shady Oaks Golf Course. The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifyingteamadvance to the Region II-2Atournament.

On Wednesday, March 20, the second Albany boys team finished fifth at the Hamlin tournament, shooting a team score of 425.

“I was glad to get the younger guys a tournament,” coach Tate Thompson said. “The experience is big for them.”

Landon Balliew finished fifth individually with an 83, followed by Connor Smith in sixth place with an 86. Jacob Knight shot 116, and Dylan Paxton shot 140 to complete the lineup.

On Monday, March 25, Myleigh Leveridge shot 134 at the Haskell tournament. Two Albany boys teams and a medalist competed at Haskell on Wednesday, March 27. Results will be reported next week.

“Myleigh kind of took a step back as far as scoring goes,” Thompson said. “Hopefully, she’s got that out of her systemandwillbeready for district.”

In playing two boys teams the last two weeks, Thompson is looking to develop younger players to continue Albany’s recent run of success beyond this season.

“Our success the last few years has sparked a lot of interest,” he said. “When this big senior class leaves, we need people to step in and pick up where they’re leaving off.”

Currently, Albany hassixplayerswhohave competed in the state tournament. Four will graduate this spring.

“I’m hoping the younger guys see the competition the top six is going through to earn a spot,” Thompson said. “Maybe that will motivate them to up their game a little bit.”
